NJ Fishing Reports

The boat has been down since the beginning of August. Blown motor(reason for lack of reports). We are re powered with a new 225hp Evinrude. We are back in the game the first week of October! Just in time for Stripers, Blues, Albies and Black Fish!!!

Well since the boat is down, mine as well hit the tuna grounds on the fountain to keep busy. We headed out and found the blue water. Arrived before sunrise and dropped the chunks. Had nice marks of lots of tuna, but no takers on jigs or chunks. Decided to head west in the green water to look around. Set up chunks and here come the mahi. After an hour of mahi catching with super light rods, we HAD to quit and get back on the tuna. Headed back out to the spot we started in the a.m. Dropped the chunks. On the way down my rod goes off in free spool. After a half hour or so I get em close and see hes a beast, 100lbs+. Had him to the side of the boat for the tail rope and he was not ready. He took off to the worst spot. THE MOTORS. You know the outcome..... It was a good day out there keeping 25 mahi to 12lbs or so and left em chewing and to be honest, that was the first tuna I ever hooked, so I was happy (Capt Billy, not so much...) Got to see him a few times. Definetly over 60", so he woulda went back regardless.

Today we had Dr. Joe's fluke charter. Headed north to work the rough stuff. Lots of shorts and of course a bunch right at 17 3/4". Anyway after covering lots of ground, making lots of moves, we managed 5 fluke to 7lbs and 1 sea bass.

Had Paul and his brother Alex for a fluke trip today. Arrived at the grounds at 7am and immediatly started hauling shorts. Finally after about 35 shorts we managed 3 keepers to 5lbs. Made moves all over, searching for a nice patch of fish. After catching another 20 shorts and missing some nice ones, we anchored up for some triggers. First drop put 3 nice ones right in. The fish got spooked and took off. Did a little more fluking before we headed in and only caught a few shorts. Bite slowed a lot. Being it was Paul and Alex's FIRST saltwater fishing experience, they didnt do so bad, even with a slow bite. Upside down spinning reels and all! Either way they had a fun time, caught a lot of fish and have a nice dinner ahead.
