Wednesday 8/1 we had Jeffs charter out for fluke. After explaining to the guys how bucktailing works and how we rig them, we left the dock. Got to the sticky around 7am. Some good life here, putting 5 keepers in on the first drift. Steady pick of keepers with few shorts until 11:45am when the guys called it quits.... Guys did pretty well, but sea sick Pat beat them with his limit. Ended with 13 keepers to 5lbs. Thanks again guys!
With all the re scheduled mess, Sharkyspy's charter could not make it Sunday. So we had to put together another crew. Had Larry, Fred, Jim and Scott for the tourny. First stop was where the big fish have been. Put a nice one around 5lbs in the boat right away with a few 3lb fish too. Looked like a great bite, no way. Made about 300,000 moves to find the right one, but today wasnt out day for a good fish. We didnt weigh out fish either. We worked our butts off with only 22 keepers to show for it. Again another day of solid 3-4lb fish, but thats not what we were in search of. Tried to avoid the keepers today.
Congrats to my good friend, Capt Jerry. You guys deserved it!
Today we had Chris' charter out for fluke. Went to where we were catching them a couple of weeks ago. Heard it hasnt been good though. Glad I didnt listen. Did only a little searching and found some flatties. Conditions were pretty good to start. Picked away at both shorts and keepers until about 11am. Had 20 keepers and on our way to a limit + boat limit. Wind against tide made our drift 0.2kn and it sucked. Made a mover to the south to lose the north current and no bites and north current found us. Made another move farther south and a 1.8kn drift. Got 1 keeper. Seas were building as the south wind was whipping and t storms were on there way. The guys opted not to beat a dead horse.
The day was looking great and thought it was gonna be a limit. Cant control the conditions though :( . Anyway the guys toughed it out and ended the day with 21 keepers to 6.5#. Thanks again guys.
Sunday 7/15 we had Toms charter with his wife, Bill and Rick. Small crew yesterday. Went right back to the same exact spot we smoked the fluke. Guys were fairly new to bucktailing, but they gave it there best with a honking south wind. Then the wind died completely, and then kicked again! Tough conditions for them, short bites and a 1.3 knot drift. South current and south wind got us bad. They decided to pull the plug around 2pm. Ended up with only 6 keepers and a ling. Thanks guys.
Saturday 7/14 we ran an open boat with an all star crew. Had Darren, Dave, Billy, Andy, Phil and Anita. Went right back to where we had bites on Friday. Slower pick for most of the morning but we did manage about 17 or 18 in the one area. Went out to another spot not too far away and it was GAME OVER. Fluke blitz, seriously. 6 keepers on every drop for about a half hour. It was the most insane fluke bite I ever seen. Stayed in that spot for a while picking keepers every drift. Did a fish count at about 2pm and we had 37. HAD to pick the last 3 for the BOAT LIMIT. Put 2 more in real quick. Spent another 2 hours trying to get the final fish. Just couldnt. Hit the inlet at 5pm without a boat limit of 40. Anyway guys did great. Ended the day with 39 keepers, 2 seabass and a ling. All keeper fluke were 3-5lbs. Maybe had to measure 5 of them. Solid day. Thanks and nice job guys!
